Everyone who has ever taken the boat to Orkney from the south will have a memory of crossing the Pentland Firth, one of the most notorious pieces of water in the world. It separates the Orkney Islands from Scotland and is where the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea meet in a shallow fast moving piece of water.
