If you were a Fireman this sound meant the call to danger. Onlookers would be hoping everyone was safe. This recording of a selection of Fire Bells was made in Leith, near Edinburgh in October 1984 and is a reminder of how for centuries brave rescuers have been risking their own lives to try and save others.
