Q. What is your memory or story surrounding this sound?
In 2002, not long after I moved to Egilsay we had the most gorgeous sunny weather with very little wind. I was still getting used the novelty of living on such a small island and the sense of freedom my new life gave me. Lying outside the house on the grass, eyes closed, soaking up the quiet and the sunshine, I suddenly tuned into a faint, unfamiliar, rhythmic sound. What’s that????? It took me a while to realise that Egilsay was so quiet I could hear the sheep chewing
